Every year, the world comes together on March 8th to honour International Women's Day, but how many of us truly know the story behind this powerful date?
The roots of Women's Day stretch back to the early 20th century, a time when women were systematically denied social, economic, and political freedom. Determined to change this, women across the world began campaigning for better working conditions, equal pay, and the right to vote. Their courage sparked a movement that reshaped history.
The first National Women's Day was observed in the United States on February 28, 1909, organised by the Socialist Party of America to champion women's labour rights. A year later, at the International Socialist Women's Conference in Copenhagen, a German activist Clara Zetkin proposed the idea of an annual international day dedicated to promoting women's rights, a vision that resonated deeply across borders. In 1975, the United Nations made it official, declaring March 8th as International Women's Day, a date now celebrated by millions around the globe.
But beyond the history books, Women's Day is a living, breathing reminder of how far we've come and how much further we can go together.
An Unforgettable Celebration at OCTS Pvt Ltd
At OCTS, Women's Day is never just a date on the calendar. It is a heartfelt opportunity to pause, reflect, and celebrate the remarkable women who bring strength, wisdom, and dedication to everything they do.
This year, male employees transformed the workspace into something truly special. Balloons floated in vibrant clusters, fresh flowers adorned the desks, and boxes of chocolates were given as sweet tokens of appreciation. Every element of the decoration was meant to reflect feminine qualities. Flowers symbolise tenderness and gentleness; chocolates are often a universal token of love and represent the sweet nature of women as mother, daughter, sister, spouse, and friend in everyone’s life.
The celebration commenced at noon. As the women employees entered the party hall, male employees welcomed them with warm applause, genuine smiles, and heartfelt wishes. It was a small gesture, but carried a powerful message: “You are seen; You are valued; You matter.”
Our manager set the tone for the event with an inspiring address and spoke with conviction about the indispensable role women play in shaping not just our organisation, but society at large. His words were more than a formality; they were a sincere acknowledgement of the everyday contributions that often go unnoticed but never go unfelt.
What followed was perhaps the most touching part of the day: employees stepping forward to share their personal reflections on Women's Day. The words of our male employees were truly emotional and showcased their respect for the women who inspired them. Stories were shared, emotions were stirred, and for a few meaningful moments, the office felt less like a workplace and more like a community bound by shared values and mutual respect. The women of OCTS expressed their gratitude, sharing their thoughts and appreciation for the meaningful celebration.
To preserve the warmth of the occasion, everyone gathered for a group photograph, a snapshot of unity, gratitude, and celebration that will remain a cherished memory for years to come.
At OCTS, we believe that recognising the women in our lives is not a once-a-year obligation; it is a commitment we uphold every day. Here's to breaking barriers, lifting each other up, and continuing to build a workplace where every woman thrives. With 60% of our workforce made up of women, OCTS proudly stands as a place that values, supports, and celebrates the strength, talent, and contributions of women every single day.
